Bilaspur to Become Himachal’s Monsoon Tourism Hub

Govt Plans Tourism Boost with Water Adventures and Local Jobs

While monsoon rains often dampen tourism across Himachal Pradesh, the state government is turning the tide—literally. In a bold new initiative, Bilaspur district has been chosen to lead Himachal’s Monsoon Tourism campaign, thanks to its safe terrain and scenic charm.

Unlike other districts that grapple with landslides and road damage during the rainy season, Bilaspur has been declared the safest monsoon destination. The government now plans to transform it into a seasonal hotspot, offering tourists a fresh reason to visit even when the skies are grey.

At the heart of this plan is the stunning Govind Sagar Lake. Already popular for water sports, the lake will soon host expanded activities like kayaking, jet-skiing, parasailing, and boating—all upgraded with modern tech and safety measures. Local youth will be trained as guides and instructors, while rescue teams and help desks will be set up to ensure a smooth experience for visitors.

This move isn’t just about tourism—it’s about transformation. More tourists mean more business for local hotels, homestays, restaurants, and artisans. It’s a win-win for the economy and the community.

Technical Education Minister and Bilaspur MLA Rajesh Dharmani summed it up: “We’re creating new opportunities to keep tourism alive year-round. Bilaspur is the safest and most suitable place to lead this change. Our goal is to make it the center of monsoon tourism, bringing both income and jobs to the region.”

The government is also eyeing other low-risk districts like Una and Hamirpur for partial inclusion in the monsoon tourism circuit. With this fresh approach, Himachal is proving that even the rainy season can be a time for adventure, growth, and discovery.
