Himachal, Punjab Gear Up for INDIA Bloc’s ‘Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao’ Rally in Delhi

Himachal Pradesh and Punjab are set to play an important role in mobilising supporters for the INDIA bloc’s “Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao” rally, scheduled to be held at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on 1 November.

In Himachal Pradesh, preparations gained momentum after Congress and CPI(M) leaders announced a coordinated campaign against the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The two parties have alleged that the exercise could result in eligible voters being removed from electoral rolls, affecting their voting rights.

Organisers in the state are planning to take around 20,000 supporters to Delhi, with nearly 400 to 500 commercial and private buses expected to be arranged. Departures are planned from Shimla, Solan, Mandi and Kangra from 31 October.

Shimla district is expected to be a significant contributor because of the organisational presence of both Congress and the CPI(M). The rally also gives the two parties an opportunity to demonstrate unity on a national political issue despite competing for electoral space within Himachal Pradesh.

The mobilisation is also expected to draw support from industrial workers, public-sector employees, farmers and apple growers. Concerns over agricultural incomes, market access and challenges facing the horticulture sector are likely to form part of the opposition’s broader campaign.

Punjab is also expected to send a sizeable contingent to the rally, strengthening the INDIA bloc’s mobilisation from northern India.
