Bindal Demands Probe into Congress Protest, Seeks Answers on Sirmaur Development and Kishau Project
A fresh political confrontation unfolded in Himachal Pradesh on Saturday as BJP state president Dr. Rajeev Bindal called for an impartial investigation into alleged incidents of vandalism and intimidation during the Congress party’s recent protest in Shimla.
Referring to the September 25 demonstration outside the Election Department office over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), Bindal said allegations of wall defacement, effigy burning, damage to a police vehicle and intimidation of police personnel should be thoroughly examined using CCTV footage, videos and other available evidence. He stressed that if any wrongdoing is established, action should be taken strictly according to law.
Emphasizing that the same legal standards must apply to both ruling and opposition parties, Bindal urged authorities to preserve all evidence linked to the protest and ensure a fair investigation.
Questions Raised on Sirmaur Development
The BJP leader also turned his attention to developmental issues, arguing that after nearly four years in office, the Congress government can no longer attribute current challenges to the previous BJP administration.
Seeking greater transparency, Bindal asked the state government to present a detailed report on expenditure and progress in Sirmaur district, particularly in healthcare, roads, drinking water supply, education and vacant government posts.
He specifically sought a status update on the development of Dr. Y.S. Parmar Government Medical College in Nahan, for which Rs 500 crore has been proposed in the 2026-27 state budget. He called for clarity on infrastructure progress and project timelines.
Focus on Healthcare and Kishau Project
Bindal also raised concerns about pending payments under government healthcare schemes, stating that patients should not suffer because of financial or administrative delays.
On the proposed Kishau Multipurpose Project, he demanded detailed information regarding Himachal Pradesh’s financial commitments, water rights, power share and irrigation benefits expected for farmers in Sirmaur.
According to Bindal, the government should clearly disclose how much irrigation water the project is expected to provide, the state’s share in water and power resources, and the basis for the projected economic gains.
He further sought details about expenditure incurred on preparations for the Chief Minister’s proposed visit to Sirmaur that was later cancelled, asking the government to explain the amount spent and the expenditure heads under which the funds were utilized.
