Residents Seek Continuation of Traffic Restrictions in Sanjauli Market

Shimla: Concerns over pedestrian safety and traffic congestion in Sanjauli Bazaar came to the fore during a public dialogue organised by the Senior Citizens Welfare Association. Senior citizens, women, children and other local residents took part in the meeting and called for traffic restrictions in the busy market to continue.

The discussion was held near the Senior Citizens Club in Sanjauli, where residents spoke about the area’s geographical constraints and the difficulties faced by pedestrians as traffic continues to increase.

Participants said that Sanjauli Bazaar has limited space for both vehicles and pedestrians, making traffic management an important issue, particularly for senior citizens, children and other vulnerable road users. They stressed the need for a system that ensures pedestrian safety while taking into account the practical realities of the area.

During the dialogue, participants also emphasised that the directions issued by the High Court regarding the traffic arrangement in Sanjauli should be respected.

Association General Secretary Vijay Sanoria clarified that the purpose of the public dialogue was neither to criticise nor to disregard the court’s order. Instead, he said, the meeting was intended to place the concerns and experiences of local residents before the authorities and highlight the need for safe and practical traffic management in the market.

Among those present at the dialogue were Naresh Kumar Bunta, PR Gupta, Pratap Rana, Ashok Lakhanpal, Lata Gupta, Pushpa Gupta, Usha Sood, Indumati Katiyar, Raj Kumar Sharma, Shivendra Batish and Vijay Veer Singh Dogra.
