Himachal to explore new opportunities for youth, tourism collaboration with Japan: Dharmani

A delegation from Himachal Pradesh, led by Technical Education Minister Rajesh Dharmani, called on R. Madhu Sudan, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of India, Tokyo, at the Indian Embassy in Tokyo.

During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on various issues concerning Himachal Pradesh, with particular emphasis on creating opportunities for students and youth of the state in technical education, skill development, training and employment in Japan. R. Madhu Sudan also appraised the delegation of the role and functioning of the Embassy of India in facilitating matters concerning Himachal Pradesh and strengthening engagement with Japan.

Rajesh Dharmani said that there was immense potential to connect the youth of Himachal Pradesh with Japan’s advanced technical expertise, skill development systems and innovation ecosystem. He said that such collaboration could provide students and young people from the state with new opportunities for international education, training and employment.

The Technical Education Minister said that it was extremely important to promote innovation in emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI). He said that Japan can provide significant cooperation in enhancing capabilities in AI and building reliable and resilient digital infrastructure. He further stated that the inclusive development of information technology would foster innovation and open up new avenues of opportunities for young people.

The meeting also focused on promoting Himachal Pradesh as a preferred tourism destination among Japanese visitors. Rajesh Dharmani said that Himachal Pradesh was globally renowned for its natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, spiritual traditions and peaceful environment.

He said that the presence of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Dharamshala has played a significant role in establishing Himachal Pradesh’s distinct global identity as a centre of spiritual and cultural significance.

The Minister emphasised that concerted efforts should be made to effectively showcase Himachal Pradesh’s tourism potential in Japan and attract a larger number of Japanese tourists to the state. He said that the state’s natural beauty, Buddhist and spiritual heritage, adventure tourism and rich Himachali culture could be major attractions for Japanese visitors.

He added that the two nations share immense possibilities in further strengthening the cultural ties. Himachal is well known for its Buddhist heritage and there was a need to promote these sites in Japan to attract more visitors. He said that the state government was committed to develop better tourism infrastructure, experiences and systems that would further enhance the economic and cultural exchanges between Japan and India.

The Technical Education Minister said that the state government was committed to leveraging the potential of Himachal Pradesh’s youth, education, skill development and tourism with global opportunities. He said that stronger engagement with Japan could create new avenues for employment, training and professional development for the youth of the state, while also strengthening Himachal Pradesh’s identity and presence at the international level.
