Governor hoists National Flag at Lok Bhavan on 80th Independence Day
- Unveils plaque commemorating Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay on 150 Years of Vande Mataram
- Reiterates Himachal’s commitment to becoming Aatmanirbhar and contributing to Viksit Bharat
- Urges youth to lead nation-building and join crusade for a drug-free Himachal
Governor Kavinder Gupta today hoisted the National Flag at Lok Bhavan, Shimla, on the occasion of the 80th Independence Day, marking the ceremony with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervor.
A ceremonial programme was held on the lawns of Lok Bhavan, where the Governor hoisted the Tricolour, following which a smartly turned-out contingent of the Police Guard stationed at Lok Bhavan presented a Guard of Honour. The Governor inspected the parade. First Lady of Himachal Pradesh, Bindu Gupta, was also present on the occasion. The Governor later distributed sweets among the staff and extended greetings and best wishes to the people of the state and the nation.
The Governor paid tribute to all the freedom fighters and martyrs who gave their lives for India’s independence. He said, ‘I pay my respects to all the great patriots and salute the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives after independence to protect the unity, security and borders of our country. Their courage and sacrifice will always inspire us.’ He said that 15 August 1947 was an important day in India’s history, made possible by the hard work, struggle and sacrifices of many freedom fighters.
The Governor said that Independence Day is not only about hoisting the national flag but is also one of the most important national celebrations. It is a time to remember our responsibility towards the unity, security and freedom of our country. He encouraged everyone to help build a strong, prosperous and self-reliant India.
The Governor said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is making progress in many areas. The country has clear plans, strong policies and growing confidence. India has also become stronger and more self-reliant in defence, in line with the idea of Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India).
He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his Independence Day speech at the Red Fort, presented the ‘Sapta Dhara’, or Seven Streams of Strength, as a framework for India’s journey towards becoming a developed country, known as Viksit Bharat, by 2047. He said that Himachal Pradesh, with its rich culture, natural resources and hardworking people, is ready to contribute to this national goal. The state aims to become Atmanirbhar Himachal and contribute to Viksit Bharat by 2047.
Sh. Gupta said that Himachal Pradesh has rich natural resources, culture and talented people. The state has a lot of potential to help India’s development. He said that the goal should be to build a self-reliant Himachal Pradesh where everyone gets equal opportunities, development benefits all sections of society and the environment is protected.
He asked the people to work together for environmental protection, sustainable development, social harmony and equal growth. He especially encouraged young people to take part in nation-building through education, innovation, entrepreneurship, sports and public service.
The Governor also urged young people to stay away from drugs and actively support the ‘Nasha Mukt Himachal’ campaign to make the state healthy and drug-free. He also stressed the importance of protecting Himachal Pradesh’s fragile environment and natural beauty.
The Governor asked the people of Himachal Pradesh to work together to build a strong, safe, prosperous, self-reliant and developed India, as well as a progressive and self-reliant Himachal Pradesh.
He wished the people of Himachal Pradesh and the entire nation peace, progress and prosperity.
Later, the Governor also unveiled a plaque commemorating Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, along with the stanzas of the National Song ‘Vande Mataram’, at Lok Bhavan in connection with the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram. He said that the National Song occupies a cherished place in India’s freedom struggle and continues to inspire the spirit of patriotism, national unity and devotion to the motherland.
