Sukhu expresses grief over death of six persons in road accident
A tragic road accident in the early hours of Monday claimed the lives of six tourists from Gujarat, while three others were seriously injured, after their vehicle plunged into a deep gorge on the Lahru–Tunnuhatti road near Kakira in the Chowari subdivision of Chamba district, Himachal Pradesh.
According to Superintendent of Police, Chamba, V. K. Saklani, the mishap occurred when an Innova car carrying nine tourists was travelling from Dalhousie to Manali. Preliminary investigations suggest that strong winds and heavy rainfall caused the driver to lose control, leading the vehicle to skid off the road and fall into the gorge.
Police identified the deceased as Lalit Bhai Phatnani, his wife Mamta, Priyank Kanhaiya Lal, his wife Kajal, their young son Diyansh, all residents of Gujarat, and the driver Jaswant, a native of Joginder Nagar in Mandi district. The sudden loss has left families and loved ones in deep shock.
The three injured passengers were rescued and shifted to Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda, where they are undergoing treatment.
Expressing deep sorrow over the incident, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families. He directed the district administration to provide all possible assistance to the affected families and ensure the best medical care for those injured.
The tragic incident once again highlights the dangers posed by adverse weather conditions and hilly terrain, especially during the monsoon and pre-monsoon seasons, urging travellers and authorities alike to exercise extra caution.
