Shimla Police Make Biggest Heroin Seizure of the Year

In a major blow to drug trafficking, Shimla Police have seized 288 grams of Chitta (heroin) from a suspected smuggler at ISBT Tutikandi — the largest recovery of the contraband in the district this year.

The accused, Shamshad Ahmed (42) from Ambala district in Haryana, was caught after a Special Cell team received a tip-off about a man attempting to sell drugs to local youths inside the bus terminal. Acting swiftly, the police intercepted him on the first floor of the ISBT and recovered the narcotics from his carry bag.

A case has been registered under the NDPS Act at Boileauganj Police Station. SSP Shimla Gaurav Singh confirmed that all angles of the case are being investigated, including the supply chain and possible links to a wider drug network spanning Himachal and neighboring states.

Officials suspect the consignment was meant for distribution among local consumers, raising fresh concerns about the growing drug menace in the region. The recovery has been hailed as a significant success in the ongoing crackdown against narcotics in Himachal Pradesh.
