Farmers & Workers Sound the Alarm: India US Trade Deal Threaten Our Fields, Our Factories, and Our Future

The All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) and the Himachal Kisan Sabha (HKS) stand united in fierce opposition to the India-US Trade Deal, recently announced by US President Donald Trump and confirmed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. We condemn what we see as a blatant surrender to foreign pressure, a move that sacrifices India’s economic sovereignty and the well-being of its people for the sake of political expediency.

This deal, paired with the impending India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA), spells disaster for millions. It is not a “mutually beneficial partnership” as claimed, but a double blow that will deepen the crisis for our farmers, workers, and every common citizen.

While the full text remains shrouded in secrecy, the outlines from Trump’s announcement are clear and chilling:

· Our markets will be flooded with subsidized US agricultural and industrial goods, destroying local livelihoods and indigenous industries.
· Our farmers will be forced into an impossible fight against heavily subsidized foreign produce, threatening their very survival.
· Indian consumers will pay the price through costly imports of US energy and coal, leading to higher prices for all.
· Our nation’s strategic autonomy is being bartered away, from defense to foreign policy, compromising our security and our principled stand in the world.

We Demand Transparency and Accountability!
The AIKS and HKS demand that the Central Government immediately place the complete texts of the India-US Trade Deal, the India-UK FTA, and the India-EU FTA before Parliament for full scrutiny and debate, with proper consultation of state governments. These anti-people agreements must be rescinded.

A Call to Rise and Resist
In solidarity with the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), we call upon all our units and every concerned citizen to join a week of resistance:

· From 4th to 11th February: Mobilize in villages and towns. Hold mass meetings to educate and organize.
· Symbolic Protest: Burn effigies of those pushing these destructive policies.
· 12th February – General Strike: Participate en masse in nationwide protest actions to make the strike against these pro-corporate, anti-national policies a resounding success.

We will not stand silent as our fields, our factories, and our future are sold out. The time to act is now.

From -Vijoo Krishnan & Ashok Dhawale (AIKS), and Rakesh Singha & Dr. Kuldeep Singh Tanwar (HKS)
