Two-day workshop on de-addiction concluded

With a pledge to make Himachal a drug-free state, the Himachal Forum Against Drug Abuse (HFADA) organized a two-day dialogue program, in which youth from various educational institutions were interacted with on the growing problem of drug abuse among youth. More than 50 students from the Social Work and Legal Department of Himachal Pradesh University, Polytechnic College Kandaghat, and DIET Solan participated in the workshop.
Retired IAS officer Sharabh Negi inaugurated the program. He praised HFADA’s efforts to combat drug addiction and said that protecting youth from the clutches of drug addiction has become a major challenge for parents. Everyone must step forward to curb this social evil.
Mental health expert and BMO Dr. Ajay Singh highlighted the increasing use of synthetic drugs among youth and the role of Yoga science in adopting scientific aspects related to healthy lifestyle, appropriately identifying one’s skills and taking one’s business forward through healthy communication in the family.
On this occasion, the first episode of the web series “The White Truth” was screened to raise awareness about drug abuse, which was well-received by the youth in particular. Additionally, a troupe formed by the DIET Institute, Solan, in collaboration with the Gyan Vigyan Samiti, presented a captivating performance of a play and organizational songs.
Dr. B.S. Panwar, Satyawan Pundir, psychologist Geetanjali Kashyap, Sumitra Chandel, Urmil Thakur and other experts participated in the program as resource persons.
HFADA convener Satyawan Pundir said that at the end of the workshop, an organizational meeting was held with colleagues from the South Zone districts of Solan, Sirmaur, Kinnaur, and Shimla. He added that in the near future, a youth convention, a “Maa Abhiyan” (mother campaign) on Women’s Day on March 8th, and programs on peer mentorship in educational institutions will be held, and drug addiction will be made an issue in the upcoming Panchayat Raj elections.
