From Organisation Builder to Election Winner: Nadda’s Leadership Leaves a Lasting Mark on BJP

The two consecutive terms of Jagat Prakash Nadda as the National President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (2020–2026) will be remembered as a defining phase in the party’s journey. It was a period marked not just by electoral victories, but by deep organisational strengthening and a politics rooted in service.

Under Nadda’s leadership, BJP consolidated its traditional voter base while also expanding into newer regions, further cementing its position as India’s strongest political force. The party’s performance during this phase reflected a blend of strategic clarity and grassroots connection.

Highlight of Nadda’s electoral achievement – BJP contested around 33 Assembly elections during Nadda’s tenure and emerged victorious in 19 of them, achieving an impressive strike rate of nearly 60 percent. Winning a second consecutive term in key states like Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, and Manipur, along with a historic victory of 156 seats in the 2022 Gujarat Assembly elections, showcased Nadda’s decisive and result-oriented leadership. The party also delivered strong performances in local body elections, including the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation polls and the District Development Council elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

On the organisational front, Nadda ensured that the BJP retained its status as the world’s largest political party. Over 18 crore members joined the party during his tenure, while booth-level empowerment campaigns gave unprecedented strength to the organisation at the grassroots. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the launch of the “Seva Hi Sangathan” campaign emerged as a powerful example of compassionate politics, with more than 22 crore food kits and over 5 crore ration kits distributed nationwide.

Nadda’s had an impactful role as Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare. Flagship initiatives such as Ayushman Bharat—the world’s largest health insurance scheme—expansion of AIIMS, digitisation of vaccination through the U-WIN portal, a record increase in medical colleges and MBBS seats, introduction of drone services in remote areas, and focused efforts towards TB eradication have transformed India’s healthcare landscape.

For Himachal Pradesh, Nadda’s contribution holds special significance. Mega projects like the Bulk Drug Park and Medical Device Park in Una have opened new avenues for growth, positioning the state as an emerging hub in the pharmaceutical and health sectors.

Summing up his legacy, Jagat Prakash Nadda’s two terms symbolised far more than a leadership position—they reflected a steadfast commitment to organisation-building, service to society, and good governance. His leadership, he added, will continue to inspire and guide future generations within the BJP
