Cement Price Hike Adds to Struggles of Himachal’s Home Builders

Cement manufacturers have once again raised prices in Himachal Pradesh, increasing the cost of each bag by ₹5 with immediate effect.

  • ACC Cement (Adani-owned): Suraksha cement now costs ₹395 per bag, while ACC Gold has gone up to ₹440.
  • Ambuja Cement: Raised from ₹400 to ₹405 per bag.
  • UltraTech Cement: Increased from ₹395 to ₹400 per bag.

Local stockists confirm that all cement companies have uniformly raised prices, making construction materials costlier across the board.

This comes just months after companies had reduced prices following a GST cut by the Central government in September 2025. Despite Himachal’s rich natural resources being used for cement production, prices here remain higher than in neighboring states.

The hike has sparked criticism. Former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur condemned the move, calling it “inhumane” at a time when many families are still rebuilding homes and cow sheds destroyed in recent natural disasters. He has demanded an immediate rollback of the increase.
