Shimla Braces for Two-Day Water Supply Disruption Amid Power Line Maintenance
Residents of Shimla and nearby areas have been advised to prepare for a partial water supply disruption on December 20 and 21. The interruption comes as the power department carries out essential maintenance work on the 66 KV Jutogh–Gumma–Sainj–Hulli transmission line.
The planned shutdown will take place on December 20 between 11 am and 5 pm. Officials say the work is part of winter preparedness measures to ensure reliable electricity in the months ahead. Tasks include tree trimming along the transmission corridor, replacing a conductor at the Jutogh substation, and servicing transformers and other electrical equipment. Maintenance will also extend to all substations connected to the line.
Because of the shutdown, pumping operations at the Gumma and Giri Lift Water Supply Schemes will be affected, leading to reduced water availability across Shimla and adjoining areas during the two-day period.
Shimla Jal Prabandhan Nigam Limited (SJPNL) has urged residents to use water judiciously, stressing that careful consumption will help meet essential needs and minimize inconvenience.
