Water Release Alert: Rampur Residents Urged to Stay Away from Sutlej on Wednesday

Residents along the Sutlej river in Rampur Bushahr have been advised to stay alert, as SJVN Limited’s Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station prepares for a controlled water release on Wednesday. The warning comes ahead of scheduled maintenance work at the dam.

Project officials explained that routine servicing of the dam’s radial gates will require releasing nearly 170 cumecs of water into the Sutlej between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. This short, two‑hour discharge window is expected to cause a sharp rise in the river’s water level, increasing the risk for anyone near the riverbanks or low‑lying stretches.

Local authorities have strongly urged residents, commuters, and visitors to keep a safe distance from the river during this period. They’ve also appealed to the community to help spread the word so that no one is caught off guard by the sudden surge.
