Himachal Board Exams to Start Later: Students Get Relief from Cold Mornings

In a move welcomed by parents, teachers, and students alike, the Himachal Pradesh School Education Board has revised the timings of the upcoming Class 10 and 12 board examinations. Starting March 3, exams will now begin at 9:45 am instead of the earlier 8:45 am, giving students an extra hour to brave the chilly mornings.

Why the Change?

Board Chairman Dr. Rajesh Sharma explained that the decision was made keeping in mind the severe cold and late sunrise in many parts of the state during March. “In snow-bound areas, students often struggle to reach exam centres on time. The new timing ensures they can travel more comfortably,” he said.

New Schedule

  • Old timing: 8:45 am – 12:00 noon
  • New timing: 9:45 am – 1:00 pm
  • Exams begin: March 3

Voices Heard

For years, parents and teachers’ associations had been urging the Board to shift exam timings. They highlighted how winter weather, snow-covered roads, and travel delays added stress to students during an already crucial academic period.

What It Means for Students

Officials say the revised schedule will:

  • Ensure student safety
  • Reduce travel-related challenges
  • Provide a more comfortable exam environment

With this change, thousands of students across Himachal can now focus on their exams without the added worry of battling freezing mornings.
