Special Lecture Organized at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study on the 150th Birth Anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda
A special lecture was organized today at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS), Rashtrapati Nivas, Shimla, to mark the closing ceremony of the 150th Birth Anniversary Year of Bhagwan Birsa Munda. The event was conducted in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Education, Government of India.
The programme commenced with a welcome address delivered by Shri Mehar Chand Negi, Secretary, Indian Institute of Advanced Study. This was followed by a special lecture by National Fellow, Professor Ramesh Chandra Sinha, on the theme “The Contributions of Bhagwan Birsa Munda.” In his detailed presentation, Prof. Sinha highlighted the life and struggles of Birsa Munda, his resolute resistance against colonial oppression, and his pivotal role in awakening social consciousness within the tribal communities. He emphasized that Birsa Munda remains an enduring and inspirational figure in the collective memory of India’s freedom movement.
The distinguished presence of National Fellow, Professor Sachidananda Mohanty, enriched the academic and intellectual significance of the event. The programme witnessed the participation of National Fellows, Tagore Fellows, Fellows, IUC Associates, officers, and staff members of the Institute in large numbers.
The event was conducted by Dr. Akhilesh Pathak, Public Relations Officer, who also delivered the vote of thanks. The programme was streamed online through the Cisco Webex platform.
