Mayor Surinder Chauhan and Dy Mayor Uma Kaushal inaugurated a blood donation camp hosted by Lion International & WHO

In a powerful response to a global need, the Lions Club of Shimla recently turned a beautiful day into a life-saving mission. Inspired by a worldwide initiative from Lions International and the World Health Organization to combat blood shortages, the club hosted a special blood donation camp that saw the community come together in a remarkable way.

The event, held at the Rain Shelter on The Ridge, was more than just a drive; it was a celebration of humanity. As Lion ManMohan Verma explained, the goal was to shine a light on the profound importance of every voluntary blood donor. “Each donation is a life-saving contribution,” he noted, emphasizing that a secure blood supply is a cornerstone of community health, essential for everything from emergency surgeries to ongoing medical treatments.

The camp was inaugurated with great enthusiasm by the Hon’ble Mayor, Shri Surinder Chauhan, and the Hon’ble Deputy Mayor, Smt. Uma Kaushal. They praised the Lions Club for its unwavering commitment to the community, not only through this drive but also through its ongoing work in tree plantation and health check-up camps.

Led by the dedicated medical team of Dr. Ganga Sharma from DDU Hospital, the atmosphere was one of hope and camaraderie. The response from the public and visitors was overwhelming. After thorough health check-ups, 30 units of blood were successfully collected—each one a potential lifeline for a patient in need.

To honor the donors for their selfless act, the Lions Club ensured their kindness did not go unnoticed. Each hero was presented with a certificate and a memento, and served refreshments as a small token of gratitude for their incredible gift.

The success of the day was made possible by the collective effort of Lions Club members, including President Lion Gopal Krishan Vaid, Zone Chairperson Lion ManMohan Verma, and a team of dedicated volunteers, all working hand-in-hand with the technicians from the DDU Hospital Blood Bank. Together, they demonstrated that when a community unites for a common cause, the result is a powerful and life-affirming force for good.
