Renuka Thakur & Indian team congratulated for creating history by winning Women World Cup 2025

A Daughter Who Made a Nation Proud

“I wish God gives everyone a daughter like Renuka,” says Sunita Thakur, her voice brimming with pride and emotion. As the mother of Indian women’s cricket team’s star bowler, Sunita isn’t just celebrating a personal victory — she’s rejoicing in a moment that has united her village and inspired a nation.

Renuka Thakur, who hails from the quiet village of Parsa in Rohru subdivision of Shimla district, has etched her name in history as part of India’s World Cup-winning squad. Her journey from playing cricket with boys on village streets to lifting the World Cup is nothing short of extraordinary.

A Village Feast for a National Hero

“The entire family and neighbours watched India fight their way to victory. Today, we’ll throw a feast for the whole village,” Sunita beams. Plans are underway for a grand celebration — complete with traditional Himachali ‘nati’ dance and DJs — to honour Renuka’s achievement.

It’s a moment of collective pride. For a village that had no cricket infrastructure, Renuka’s rise is a testament to grit and dreams that defy limitations.

A Father’s Dream, A Daughter’s Promise

Renuka’s brother, Vinod Thakur, recalls their late father’s passion for sports. “He wanted both of us to shine in cricket and kabaddi. He loved sports so much, he named me after Vinod Kambli,” Vinod shares. While both siblings carried the dream, it was Renuka who fulfilled it — becoming a regular in the Indian women’s cricket team and making her debut in 2021.

Her big break came when she was selected for the HPCA’s women’s cricket academy in Dharamsala. From there, she honed her skills and rose through the ranks, proving that talent can thrive even in the remotest corners of India.

A Celebration of Hope and Heritage

Renuka’s story isn’t just about cricket — it’s about resilience, family, and the power of belief. As her village prepares to dance and dine in her honour, her journey becomes a beacon for countless young girls who dare to dream beyond boundaries.
