Wildflower Hall Set for International Revival as Himachal Invites Global Hospitality Brands

After years of legal wrangling and uncertainty, the majestic Wildflower Hall near Mashobra is finally poised for a fresh start. The Himachal Pradesh government has announced plans to invite global bids from top-tier international hotel chains to manage the iconic seven-star heritage property, nestled in the serene deodar forests just outside Shimla.

The decision came during a cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Saturday. The consensus? This storied hilltop retreat deserves nothing less than world-class stewardship.

“We want Wildflower Hall to reflect the best of Himachal and the best of global hospitality,” said Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan. He confirmed that a Government of India enterprise will oversee the tendering process, ensuring only the most reputed hotel brands step forward. “It’s about preserving excellence and boosting revenue,” he added.

And the stakes are high. Since reclaiming ownership, the state has already earned ₹425 crore from the property. For now, the Oberoi Group continues to manage the hotel on an interim basis, but that’s set to change once the bidding process concludes.

This moment marks the end of a long and complex journey. The state regained full control of Wildflower Hall on March 31, 2025, after a 23-year legal battle with East India Hotels Ltd (EIHL), the parent company of the Oberoi Group. The Supreme Court’s ruling in February 2024 sealed the deal, affirming earlier decisions in the state’s favor.

The roots of the dispute stretch back to 2002, when the government terminated its agreement with EIHL over alleged contract violations. What followed was a marathon of legal proceedings across multiple forums, culminating in the property’s return to public hands.

Now, with the cabinet’s green light, Himachal Pradesh is looking ahead. The goal is clear: to elevate Wildflower Hall’s legacy while ensuring it thrives as a beacon of luxury, heritage, and natural beauty.
