Inauguration of Wall of Fame at Edwards, General Bipin Rawat our gem
A three-day program celebrating the 100th anniversary of Edwards School was held on the school campus. State government minister Anirudh Singh was the chief guest at the event. Former Supreme Court judge Deepak Gupta and High Court judge Vipin Chandra Negi were also present as special guests.
Addressing the event, Edwards Association President Rajiv Sood said, “The association and guests inaugurated the Memorial Park. We have created a Wall of Fame, which includes prominent Edwards leaders who have brought honor to Himachal and Edwards by serving the country.”
The Wall of Fame for supreme sacrifice in operations (Army) includes General Bipin Rawat PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, YSM, SM, VSM (1958-2021) and India’s first CDS, Captain Jatinder Nath Sood Vir Chakra (Post) 1971, Captain Sanjay Dogra 1989, Captain Sandeep Kumar 2000, Captain Amit Joshi 2002, Brigadier Ravi Dutt Mehta Kirti Chakra (Post) 2008.
He said that besides this, those decorated for gallantry include 2LT (later Colonel) VN Madan Vir Chakra 1963, Wing CDR CS Doraiswami Vir Chakra 1965, Lt Col (later Lt Gen) Raj Mohan Vohra Mahavir Chakra 1971, Major (later Brig) Vijay Kumar Berry Mahavir Chakra 1971, Captain Jatinder Nath Sood Vir Chakra (post) 1971, Colm Thadani Shaurya Chakra 1983, Wg CDR Rajbir Singh Vir Chakra 1987, Lt (later Commodore) Rupen Bembe Nav Sena Medal (GAL) 1994, Captain (later Colonel) Atul Bisht Sena Medal (GAL) 1994, Lt Col (later Lt Gen) PM Bali Mention-in-Despatches 2000, Brig Ravi Dutt Mehta Kirti Chakra (post) 2008, Major (now Colonel) Ajay Singh Shaurya Chakra and Bar. The names of Flight Lieutenant Arshvir Singh Thakur, Shaurya Chakra 2009, 2010 and Vir Chakra 2025 have also been inscribed.
He said that it is a matter of pride for us that people who serve the country in this manner have studied and come out from here.
He said that the country’s soldiers have elevated India’s security and international reputation to new heights. Surgical strikes, air strikes, and Operation Sindoor sent a message to the world that India now possesses the capability to strike at home. Equipped with modern weapons and Rafale aircraft, our country is becoming self-reliant in the defense sector through rapid defense production and “Make in India.” Today, India is among the world’s top defense exporters.
