Anurag Singh Thakur Becomes President of Himachal Olympic Association
The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Himachal Pradesh Olympic Association (HPOA) was held today with massive participation and enthusiasm from members across the state. This meeting was a significant occasion, as a new team of office bearers was elected for the next term of the Association.
Unanimously, former Union Sports Minister, Shri Anurag Thakur, was elected as the President of the Himachal Pradesh Olympic Association. The newly elected executive committee has 17 members (as per the attached list).
The elected key office bearers include:
· The outgoing President, Shri Virender Kanwar, was unanimously nominated as the Chief Patron of HPOA.
· Senior Vice President: MLA Shri Balbir Verma
· General Secretary: Shri Rajesh Bhandari
· Treasurer: Shri Amitabh Sharma
· Vice Presidents: Shri Ishwar Rohal, Smt. Usha Barowalia, and Shri Narendra Atri
· Joint Secretaries: Shri Raj Kumar Nittu, Dr. Rahul Pathania, and Shri Ramesh Chauhan
Addressing the gathering, President Shri Anurag Thakur outlined the Association’s key priorities and emphasized the following:
· Strengthening sports infrastructure across the state.
· Increasing the number of qualified coaches to train athletes in all Olympic sports.
· Promoting grassroots participation to nurture young talent.
· Building a self-reliant model for the development and management of Olympic sports in Himachal Pradesh.
He also highlighted Himachal Pradesh’s unique potential as a natural hub for high-altitude and endurance sports and stressed that these sports should be given special priority in the state’s sports development agenda.
Shri Anurag Singh Thakur congratulated all the newly elected office bearers and expressed confidence that the team would work collectively for the betterment of sports in Himachal Pradesh and ensure transparent, effective, and visionary sports administration.
