Himachal to Welcome 1,500 New Teachers This November: A Big Step Toward Stronger Schools

In a major push to improve education in Himachal Pradesh, Education Minister Rohit Thakur announced that the state will begin hiring 1,500 teachers starting this November. This marks the beginning of a broader plan to fill over 3,100 teaching positions in government schools by the 2026–27 academic year.

At a press conference held at the Secretariat on Friday, Thakur shared that the first phase of recruitment will include 600 Junior Basic Teachers (JBTs) and 900 Trained Graduate Teachers (TGTs). The Directorate of School Education has already submitted the proposal to the State Selection Commission, which will oversee the hiring process.

“Our goal is simple—no government school should be without a teacher,” Thakur said, emphasizing the urgency and importance of the initiative.

Since coming to power, the Congress government has made education a top priority. Thakur highlighted that 7,000 positions have already been filled in the Education Department, including 4,000 through batch-wise recruitment. The government now aims to recruit 3,000 more, with a target of 10,000 appointments by the end of 2025.

In addition to direct hires, around 13,000 positions will be filled through outsourcing, including over 6,000 via the National Teacher Training (NTT) process and other categories.

This large-scale recruitment effort is expected to significantly improve the teacher-student ratio in Himachal’s schools, paving the way for better learning experiences and outcomes for students across the state.
