Dussehra fair will be celebrated with great pomp in Junga from 2nd to 4th October
The ancient and famous district-level Dussehra fair of the Keonthal region will be celebrated with great pomp this year at the historic School Ground, Junga, from October 2 to 4. In addition to the burning of the Lanka, cultural programs, kabaddi and wrestling competitions will be the main attractions of the fair.
Presiding over the meeting of the fair committee, Tehsildar Junga and Fair Officer Narayan Singh Verma said that as per tradition, under the leadership of Raja Khus Vikram Sen of the then Keonthal State, a procession was taken out from the palace with Raghunath’s palanquin and musical instruments in which hundreds of people from the area including local schools will participate. After Raja Khus Vikram Sen performs puja in the fair ground, Lanka will be burnt by setting fire to the effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakarna and Meghnad. He said that during the fair, there will be a local holiday in Junga tehsil on 3rd and 4th October.
Similarly, Kabaddi competitions will be held during the day on October 3rd, in which teams from various regions of the state will participate. He informed that the entry fee for the Kabaddi team has been kept at one thousand rupees. This competition will run for two days, in which the winning team will be awarded a cash prize of 31 thousand rupees and the runner-up team will be awarded 21 thousand rupees. In addition, cultural programs will be presented at the fair by schools, women’s groups, self-help groups and local artists of the Junga area during the day. He informed that Star Night will be organized by the fair committee on October 3rd, in which ADM Shimla Pankaj Sharma will participate as the chief guest.
The Tehsildar announced that on October 4th, the final day of the fair, a massive wrestling competition will be held, featuring renowned wrestlers from across North India. The wrestler who wins the big prize will receive a prize of 51,000 rupees. The finals of the Kabaddi competition will also be held on this day.
The Tehsildar stated that special arrangements have been made to maintain law and order at the fair. Committees have been formed to manage water, electricity, and other services at the fair site. Deputy Tehsildar Rajendra Thakur, Junga Panchayat head Bansi Lal Kashyap, Pankaj Sen, and other members of the fair committee were present on the occasion.
