Himachal earns Rs 9,375 crore from GST in a year, with a 14% jump in revenue every year: Gopal

• Rs 14942 crore comes through aid in grant, the Centre sends 50% of the total budget of Himachal Pradesh.

• Himachal received Rs 24317 crore from the Centre in 2023 and 2024

BJP national spokesperson Gopal Krishna Agarwal, while addressing a press conference, said that Himachal Pradesh will not lose even a single penny due to the changes in GST. He claimed that Himachal Pradesh will see a 14% increase in its annual income from GST and IGST. Presenting figures, he said that if we talk about 2023-2024, Himachal Pradesh has received Rs 5339 crore through the state’s share of GST and Rs 2845 crore from IGST. If their total is added, Himachal Pradesh has received Rs 9375 crore through GST. Citing grants-in-aid, he said that Himachal Pradesh received Rs 14942 crore from the Centre in 2023 and 2024. This means that in one year, Himachal Pradesh received Rs 24317 crore from the Centre. Himachal Pradesh’s total budget is Rs 50000 crore. This means that Himachal Pradesh is receiving 50% of the total budget from the Centre. If even after that the Himachal government and Congress leaders are crying for money then only the Himachal government and Congress should answer this, the central government is standing shoulder to shoulder with the state government, the Himachal government and Congress are only trying to set a negative narrative.

He said that Himachal Pradesh received ₹4,753 crore in 2020 and 2021, ₹7,349 crore in 2021 and 2022, and ₹7,883 crore in 2022 and 2023 through GST. This is not a small amount. Simply stating that Himachal Pradesh is incurring a loss due to GST is not proof of the truth. He said that Himachal Pradesh is spending 39% on salaries, 23% on pensions, and 15% on interest. Simply blaming the Centre will not change the truth.

BJP National Spokesperson Gopal Krishna Agarwal said that the Next Gen GST reform will provide further strength and momentum to India’s growing economy. On the morning of September 22nd, upon the implementation of the new Next Gen GST, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called it a GST Savings Festival and said that the concept of “Janata Devo Bhava” (People are Gods) is being realized through this initiative.

Gopal ji said that when the GST tax system was implemented in 2017, respected Prime Minister Narendra Modi called it the day of India’s economic independence. The “one nation, one tax” system provided a strong foundation for India’s unity and integrity.

He said that previous governments were not successful in implementing GST, whereas the Modi government implemented a successful tax system by incorporating all state and central taxes by assuring 14% annual compensation to the states.

He said that today the country is earning an average tax collection of more than Rs 2 lakh crore per month and GST has been technically simple and widely implemented.

Key points of Next Gen GST Reform:

• Now only two slabs – 5% and 18% (99% of goods covered under these).

• Minimum taxes on everyday essential items.

• GST registration for new merchants in just 3 days.

• 90% of taxpayers’ refund amount will be released immediately.

• Solution to the problems of inverted duty structure and input tax credit.

• Compliance process even simpler.

He said that these reforms will not only ease business but will also make goods available to the general public at lower prices, farmers will get benefits on agricultural equipment and the industry and business world will get a boost due to increasing demand.

Gopal Krishna further stated that these reforms will make India’s economy self-reliant and give new energy to the Prime Minister’s Swadeshi campaign. Growing domestic demand will create new investment opportunities and help India take stronger steps towards becoming a developed country.

He expressed confidence that the Next Gen GST reform, which is going to be implemented from today, will prove to be a historic economic achievement for India.
