Rain Disrupts Education in Shimla as Schools and Colleges Shut Down
In response to relentless heavy rainfall and fresh warnings of more downpours, all government and private educational institutions in Shimla will remain closed today. The closure affects schools, colleges, ITIs, polytechnics, anganwadis, and nursing institutes, as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students and staff.
The decision was announced by Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap (IAS), citing student safety amid landslides, tree falls, and blocked roads.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a radar warning early this morning at 6 a.m., forecasting moderate rainfall over the next 2–3 hours in several districts including Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kangra, Mandi, Chamba, and Kullu. Some areas may experience heavy rain, while Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, and Lahaul-Spiti are expected to receive light to moderate showers. Kinnaur may see isolated light rain.
Local authorities have urged residents, especially students and commuters, to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel. With landslides and waterlogging reported in various parts of the state, safety remains a top priority.
More updates are expected as the weather situation develops.
