A Long-Awaited Recognition: Himachal’s Jal Rakshaks Step Into New Roles as Pump Operators
In a move that brings long-overdue recognition to years of dedicated service, the Himachal Pradesh government has announced the creation of 1,386 new posts of pump operators in the Jal Shakti Department. This decision marks a major milestone for Jal Rakshaks—many of whom have been serving the state’s water infrastructure for over a decade.
According to the official notification, Jal Rakshaks who have completed 12 or more years of service by December 31, 2024, will be appointed as pump operators. These newly created roles come with a pay scale of ₹18,000–₹56,900, offering financial stability and formal acknowledgment of their contributions.
Jal Shakti Department Secretary Rakhil Kahlon emphasized that all future pump operator vacancies will be filled exclusively by Jal Rakshaks until the sanctioned strength of 1,386 is reached. His directive reinforces the government’s commitment to honoring its policy and ensuring that these frontline workers are given the opportunities they deserve.
This move not only strengthens the department’s workforce but also boosts morale among thousands of Jal Rakshaks who have been waiting patiently for regularization. It’s a step toward fairness, stability, and a more empowered future for those who’ve kept Himachal’s water systems running smoothly for years.
