Shimla Four-Lane Construction Chaos: Family Loses Home as Himachal Kisan Sabha Demands Action

A family in Bhattakufar, Shimla watched helplessly as their home crumbled this week—the latest casualty of the controversial four-lane highway project. The Himachal Kisan Sabha has now launched scathing accusations against the construction company involved, calling their work “dangerously incompetent.”

“This wasn’t just an accident—it was negligence waiting to happen,” fumes Dr. Kuldeep Singh Tanwar, State President of the farmers’ collective. His organization claims the Gawar Company’s shoddy practices have been putting lives at risk for months, with multiple complaints from locals about cracked walls and unstable ground.

Rainy Season Crisis
With monsoon showers intensifying, the situation has turned critical. “We’ve been warning them,” Dr. Tanwar explains, his voice rising in frustration. “Digging into hillsides during heavy rains is like playing Russian roulette with people’s homes.” The Kisan Sabha is demanding:

  • Immediate suspension of all monsoon construction
  • Full compensation for the destroyed home
  • Temporary housing for displaced families
  • Urgent safety inspections of nearby buildings

A Family’s Nightmare
While officials debate protocols, one displaced homeowner (who asked not to be named) shared their horror: “We heard cracking sounds all morning. By afternoon, our kitchen wall collapsed.” Their family is now staying with relatives, uncertain when—or if—they’ll have a home to return to.

The Public Works Department maintains that “all safety protocols are being followed,” but this assurance rings hollow for residents living in the project’s shadow. As the Kisan Sabha prepares to meet with state officials next week, the pressing question remains: How many more homes must fall before someone takes real action?

For now, the hills echo not just with the sound of construction equipment, but with growing public anger—and the unsettling creaks of straining infrastructure.
