Fresh Landslide Near Chakki Mor Halts Traffic on Shimla National Highway
A landslide near Chakki Mor on the Pinjore-Shimla National Highway caused major disruptions early Sunday morning, bringing traffic to a standstill for hours. The debris tumbled down near the nuclear turn, blocking the highway completely between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m.
The impact wasn’t limited to road traffic—rail services on the UNESCO-listed Kalka-Shimla Heritage Railway Line were also affected after debris fell near Koti. Northern Railway officials swiftly halted train movement as a precautionary measure.
Solan SP Gaurav Singh confirmed that police teams rushed to the spot, and heavy machinery was deployed to clear the debris. “One lane of the highway has been opened near Kadi after removing the debris,” he said.
To manage the chaos, traffic from Kasauli is being rerouted via Jangeshu. Vehicles heading from Kasauli to Chandigarh are being diverted through this alternate route while authorities work to fully restore normal movement.
With landslides becoming a recurring issue in the region, travelers are advised to stay updated on road conditions before setting out.
