R.D. Dhiman appointed as Chairperson of Himachal Pradesh RERA

Responding to mounting judicial pressure, the Himachal Pradesh government has appointed retired IAS officer R.D. Dhiman as Chairperson of the Himachal Pradesh Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA). Alongside him, fellow retired bureaucrat Amit Kashyap has been named as a Member of the authority.

These appointments, made under Section 20 of the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016, follow recommendations from the selection committee and were formally notified by the Governor. Both officials will serve for five years or until they reach the age of 65, whichever comes first.

The move comes just days after the Himachal Pradesh High Court sharply criticized the state government for delaying the appointments. The court had set a firm deadline of June 25 for the notification and imposed a ₹5 lakh fine on the government for its inaction.

With the appointments now in place, the state hopes to avoid further judicial scrutiny, though the court’s upcoming review will determine whether this last-minute action meets its expectations.
