Himachal to Introduce CBSE Curriculum in 100 Government Schools
The Himachal Pradesh government is taking a significant step to enhance education quality by introducing the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) curriculum in 100 government schools across the state. This initiative aims to boost enrollment in public schools and make them more competitive with private institutions.
Education Minister Rohit Thakur will meet with Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to finalize the implementation framework. Their discussion will focus on selecting schools for this initiative and setting up the necessary infrastructure and training programs. The initial phase will target rural areas, with the possibility of including day boarding schools to expand the program’s reach.
The primary goal is to retain students within the public education system by adopting the CBSE curriculum, thereby reducing the migration to private schools. Preparations are underway to ensure a smooth transition, including specialized training for teachers and a delegation visit to the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) in Delhi to study best practices.
Once the implementation plan is approved, the government will apply for CBSE affiliation for the selected schools, aiming to start the new curriculum in the upcoming academic session. This move is part of a broader strategy to align the state’s education system with national standards and improve overall education quality in Himachal Pradesh.
