Motivate more students to apply for JNV Theog entrance exam: Anupam Kashyap
Deputy Commissioner of Shimla, Anupam Kashyap, has urged all schools in the district to encourage students currently studying in class 5 to apply for the entrance exam at PM Shri Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Theog. He emphasized that many students miss out on the opportunity to apply due to a lack of information. To address this issue, he has directed the Deputy Director of Elementary Education to ensure that all government and private schools in the district register as many students as possible for the entrance exam.
The Deputy Commissioner was speaking at a meeting held today to discuss the entrance exam for PM Shri Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Theog. He informed that the written exam for class 6 admission for the 2025-26 academic session will be conducted on April 12, 2025. Eligible and interested students must submit their applications online before the deadline of September 16, 2024.
Kashyap highlighted that students are more disciplined after completing class 5, making them better suited for the rigorous training provided by institutions like Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, which prepares them for future challenges from a young age.
During the meeting, Deputy Director of Elementary Education, Mohinder, shared that there are around 1,500 primary schools in Shimla district where teachers and students can be made aware of the entrance exam. The Deputy Commissioner instructed the Deputy Director to ensure that awareness is spread across all these schools to maximize student participation.
PM Shri Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Theog Principal, Sangeeta Shaunik, mentioned that 80 students will be selected for class 6 admission through the entrance exam, and online applications are currently open. So far, 268 applications have been received. She further shared that last academic session saw a total of 2,955 applications, and this year, the goal is to receive at least 6,000 applications.
Shaunik also informed that students at PM Shri Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Theog, are provided with free textbooks worth approximately ₹8,000. Additionally, experts from top institutions regularly visit the school to guide the students.
She added that 75% of the seats are reserved for students from rural areas, and one-third of the seats are reserved for girls. Reservation is also provided block-wise, and the application for the entrance exam is free of cost.
The Principal also mentioned that the children of laborers working on construction projects at PM Shri Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Theog, are also being educated on the school campus to ensure that everyone has access to education.
Application Process
Online applications are being accepted for class 6 admission for the 2025 academic session at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya. The applicant must be currently studying in class 5 and be a permanent resident of Shimla district. Additionally, they must be studying in a recognized school in Shimla district. When filling out the online form, the category selection (GEN/OBC/SC/ST) must be accurate, and OBC is valid only as per the Central List. The selection of the region (rural/urban) should be according to the school attended in classes 3, 4, and 5. The candidate’s photograph, signature, and the signature of a parent must be clear. The candidate’s date of birth must fall between May 1, 2013, and July 31, 2015. Candidates who have previously taken this exam are not eligible to reapply.
