SKM protests against UP and Uttarakhand Govt’s order to display owners during the Kanwar Yatra

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha has strongly opposed the government order issued by the BJP-led state governments of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand ordering all eateries to display the names of owners to identify their religion during the Kanwar Yatra. The SKM fears that such display of owners’ names will make business establishments of minorities an easy target for the communal design of the RSS and BJP.
In a statement issued to the media on Tuesday, Dr. Kuldeep Tanwar, the state president of the Himachal Kisan Sabha, said that this order has been issued clearly to discriminate in the selection of shop owners on the basis of religion. This is a serious violation of the Constitution of India.
He said that SKM welcomed the decision of the Supreme Court to stay the order and hoped that there would be no potential threat to the constitutional principles and strict action would be taken against those who violate the Constitution.
Dr Tanwar said that Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand have enjoyed and cherished the mixed culture of all religions from time to time, which was demonstrated not only during the 1857 struggle against the British but also during the recent farmers’ struggle.
SKM considers this order as treason against national unity and demands an apology from the Chief Ministers and Governors of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The bureaucrats who have surrendered to this despicable communal conspiracy and signed such an anti-national order must be given severe punishment so that it becomes a lesson for all those perverted minds who are still in government service.
He said that SKM appeals to all its constituent organizations to oppose this divisive plan of BJP and make concrete efforts to build a movement on the demands of SKM at the rural level.
